Every Friday, we end the week on a good note with a selection of freshly released songs.

Here are our new #RecsFriday! (You can also find them on our Instagram and Twitter accounts)

From us to you. With love.

Dumb Dumb – mazie

“Disappointment takes us by surprise / Even though by now I think we should have realized / Everyone is dumb.” In the opening lines of her new track, Gracie Christian (or mazie) says it all, right before a frantic rhythm and cartoon-like melodies kick in (anybody else thinking of the Oggy and the Cockroaches opening theme?). Self-aware as always (in her song No Friends, she notable sings in the second verse: “Like I said in the chorus.”), the 21-year-old purposefully takes the ridicule even further with a colorful music video filmed in her own kitchen by her best friend. Absurdly entertaining, it might make you chuckle like a cartoon would. And if you’re wondering what the Baltimore-based musician is going on about, the Fake News-Paper she’s seen reading in the video is enough of a hint to answer your question. Released on July 8th, Dumb Dumb is mazie’s first single from her freshly announced EP The Rainbow Cassette, set for a release on August 25th. ⬪ Ahlem Khattab

Rae Street – Courtney Barnett

I absolutely love songs that don’t just tell stories, but paint a very precise picture with their words. When I listened to Rae Street for the first time, I felt like I could almost see Courtney Barnett “drag a chair by the window” and “watch what’s going on.” Almost as if we were sitting next to her, we join her on her musical journey which mixes little snippets of the outside world and her own thoughts, all imbued with a soothing tranquility. It’s the first single from the Australian musician’s upcoming album, Things Take Time, Take Time, coming out on November 12. ⬪ Julia Bergier

I’m With You – Matthew Mole

Need a pick-me-up? This sweet song by Matthew Mole might do. It doesn’t really matter who he’s really singing to, here. This one is for anyone who’s listening: “When you know my song in your broken heart / And your hope is gone, I’ll be holding on again / I’m with you.” And for an extra dose of cuteness and a change of scenery (for many of us, virtual escapades are still pretty much all that we’ve got), the music video he released this Friday for the track is a must-watch. In it, the South African musician loses his favorite balloon (yes, you read that correctly), and then goes around Cape Town looking for it. It’s oddly wholesome. ⬪ AK

Go Away – Omar Apollo

Came for the title, like the introvert that I am, and stayed for the chill yet catchy melody, and soft and relatable lyrics : that is how I would sum up my experience with Go Away. In this one, Omar Apollo isn’t trying to push somebody away, quite the contrary actually. He’s longing for someone but clearly doesn’t want to come on too strong, which I find both very cute and highly relatable. Plus, there’s just something about the melody that makes me want to stand up and dance, just like the singer does in the music video. ⬪ JB
