On Monday, we start off the week right with our #SongOfTheWeek (check out our latest one, featuring Orla Gartland) and on Friday we end it on a good note with #RecsFriday. Debuted on our Instagram stories and our Twitter account (we love a good thread), we decided it to make it into a weekly post here, too. And we put all the songs together in a playlist. You’ll find all the links down below.

Without further ado, here are this week’s recommendations.

From us to you. With love.

Like the Movies – Laufey

I absolutely adore this song. Laufey has a knack for giving jazz and blues a modern twist, making it into her own distinct and specific sound (her unique voice helps). This song channels the soundtracks’ of some of the best old movies, matching its title and theme, coloring the picture the singer-songwriter draws with her words. She feels like she has idealized movie romances too much, and therefore won’t get her shot at the real thing. ⬪ Ahlem Khattab

Happy For Me – Lou Elliotte

Don’t let the upbeat melody fool you, Happy For Me isn’t a happy story from the first few lines of the song. As Lou Elliotte keeps singing about her partner and how they can’t stand to share the spotlight nor be happy for her, you might start hoping to hear all about the breaking up part. Whether or not you’ve been in a similar situation or not, this song is a good reminder that you should surround yourself with people who want the best for you. ⬪ Julia Bergier

Don’t Need Nothing – Aly & AJ

If you’ve been keeping up with us for a while, you have probably noticed that I’m a loyal fan of the Michalka sisters’ music. I’m very excited about their upcoming album because, if all of its singles are any indication, it’s going to be their best one yet. This song is filled with good energy, and it certainly is a tune that will “get you up on your feet”, with “a touch of the beat”. The music video is both fun and beautiful, definitely worth a watch! ⬪ Ahlem Khattab

Anybody Else – spill tab

Anybody Else starts delicately, almost timidly like one can feel before confessing their feelings. Despite hoping she won’t at first, spill tab does so honestly. She sings about her affection, her fear of becoming “your favourite goodbye” and how she doesn’t want to share this person on a soft melody that gets gradually more intense on each chorus, almost like a heart that starts racing. ⬪ Julia Bergier
