On Monday, we start off the week right with our #SongOfTheWeek, then we end it on a good note with #RecsFriday.
Here are this week’s recommendations.
From us to you. With love.
Yours – Surfaces
It’s the kind of song you can easily see yourself listening to while sitting by the pool, maybe a drink in your hand, on a summer day. Chill, mellow. You might even catch yourself already humming along to its melody on your first listen. Off Surfaces’ freshly released fourth album Pacifico, Yours is a sweet love song where the protagonist is only certain of one thing in life: their love for their partner. The whole record actually feels like summer; different moments of it, different places, but always with a beach nearby. And it’s for a reason. Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki wrote, recorded and produced their whole record while they were staying at a house they rented out, and it came a view on the Malibu coastline. “We tried to capture the entire experience of the journey through sound, and left the house wanting all of you to feel like you were there with us,” they explained on Instagram. Healing – Fletcher
In an Instagram post about the song, Fletcher said: “If you’re healing, made this one for you…. and me”, and that is exactly how I perceived it from the first listen (and it hasn’t changed one bit since, no matter how many times I hit play). Articulating one’s feelings isn’t always easy and sometimes, you’re lucky enough to stumble upon artists who do it for you by sharing their own experience. Fletcher does it over a soft and catchy melody that feels like a hug in music form, and I truly hope it’ll brighten your day like it did mine. ⬪ Julia Bergier
Here’s Hopin’ – JP Saxe
When I first heard this song, it was at the end of a long and exhausting week, and the bittersweet Here’s Hopin’ just soothed me. JP Saxe surely knows how to craft soft and almost shy melodies that will make you lean in (metaphorically, or literally if you’ve ever seen him live) and want to hear more, better. This Friday, he released his debut album Dangerous Levels of Introspection. It was about time to get to really know him more as an artist than through the few songs (and major duets – with Lennon Stella, Julia Michaels and Maren Morris) he had put out before. This track not only highlights his signature vulnerability, but also comes with a sweet guitar solo that emulates perfectly what the Canadian artist is singing about. ⬪ Ahlem Khattab
The End – November Ultra
If you had a rough week and are in need of a hug (yes, another musical one), you should definitely listen to November Ultra. I’ll admit that picking only one song from her EP released this Friday wasn’t easy, but this one is definitely a favourite. Nova’s soft voice and the delicate melody are the perfect combination to make you feel loved and cheer you up on a rainy day. ⬪ Julia Bergier
