From us to you. With love.

Renegade – Big Red Machine & Taylor Swift

If you enjoyed Taylor Swift’s 2020 FolkloreEvermore adventures then this one might end up in your tracks of the moment at one point or another. The singer joins Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon in their Big Red Machine project (no relation to her former label Big Machine) in this track from their forthcoming album, How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last? (she’s actually featured on 2 songs total on it). Written by Swift and Dessner, and produced by the latter, Renegade revives the same magic and creative chemistry that made the 2020 sister albums happen in the first place. Lyrically, it tells the point of view of someone who is in a relationship with a person struggling with mental health. The protagonist is hurt by their partner’s attitude and starts wondering if it’s really all because of their “anxiety” or if they’re using it as an excuse. Swift sings in the chorus: “Is it insensitive for me to say ‘Get your shit together so I can love you?’ / Is it really your anxiety that stops you from giving me everything? Or do you just not want to?” But throughout all these doubts being laid out, one important reminded keeps coming back: it’s okay to need help sometimes and ask for it. ⬪ Ahlem Khattab

Wrecked – Imagine Dragons

What I love about Imagine Dragons is how they never fail to take me into their world with powerful melodies and lyrics that hit just right. I always have a great time listening to them, whether I’m feeling like I’m a badass character in an epic action scene or l’m drowning in my feelings. With Wrecked, it’s the latter. With this third single off their fifth album (coming out on September 3rd), the band explores grief, both softly and powerfully, and I really can’t wait to hear more. ⬪ Julia Bergier

Two Dimensions – EASHA

The NJ-based singer-songwriter has had a busy 2021 so far. After going viral on TikTok and Instagram Reels at the end of 2020, she released in January her first EP, then put out 2 songs: Far Away (featured in our Escapade playlist) and You Make Me Feel. This Friday, she’s back at it with one more track. Still faithful to her acoustic roots, the musician allows herself some r’n’b vibes in Two Dimensions as she sings about isolation. She tries to escape reality through the Internet and social media only to find herself stuck between two worlds: one that doesn’t exist anymore and another where only appearances (and likes) seem to matter. Relatable. ⬪ AK

Celebrate – Isaac Dunbar

As soon as I hit play for the first time, I wanted to “let go of all the weight”, like Isaac Dunbar says in his song, and start jumping around. Unfortunately, I was riding the tube at the time and it’s not really the right place to dance and sing at the top of your lungs. But it’s exactly how Celebrate will make you feel with its catchy 80s-like melody. Besides, it conveys a positive message that isn’t naive nor patronizing. The singer is simply inviting you to a little party, even if it only lasts 3 minutes (and you can always listen to the song again if you want to dance some more). ⬪ JB
