On Monday, we start off the week right with our #SongOfTheWeek, then we end it on a good note with #RecsFriday.

Here are this week’s recommendations.

From us to you. With love.

Build It Better – Natalie Imbruglia

There have been many comebacks in recent years, but this one definitely surprised me when I learned about it. To be fair, the Australian singer’s previous release was only in 2015, but internationally, she’s mostly known for her 1997 hit Torn. And you don’t need to have been old enough or even born back then to know of it. The song is widely referenced in movies and shows, and has been covered many times (even by One Direction). Twenty-four years after singing that she’s “bound and broken on the floor”, Natalie Imbruglia is here to say: “But nothing lasts forever / When it all falls down, gotta build it better”. Bonus: if you focus, you can actually sing some of Torn’s chorus over the new track. ⬪ Ahlem Khattab

Chut – Adrien Gallo

There are songs that get stuck in your head after only listening to them once. Chut is one of them. It’s about a breakup, yes, but it’s catchy and fun. It’ll make you bop your head along or, who knows, even break out a dance move or two before you hit play again. And if you’re familiar with 2000s French pop like me, you might think of “Dis-moi” (“Tell me”) by BB Brunes when you hear Adrien Gallo singing “Chut, ne le dis pas” (“Hush, don’t tell me”) on this first single from his forthcoming solo project. ⬪ Julia Bergier

BAMO – Eloise

The British singer-songwriter admits it right away: she’s “bad at moving on”. She means from an ex, but the sentiment is relatable, universal. Every self-aware person must’ve struggled with letting go of someone or something at some point. Off her freshly released record Somewhere In-Between, Eloise captures that feeling in BAMO, as she sings about being unable to part ways with her memories of a past and far from perfect love affair. Produced by fellow singer-songwriter and guitarist Bruno Major (Eloise used to be in his touring band, then opened for several of his shows around the world), the track feels like a perfect fusion of both their worlds, in all their jazz & r’n’b-infused glory. ⬪ AK

Not Sad Anymore – Clara Mae

Another breakup song (I promise I didn’t pick my songs with that theme in mind), but as you might have guessed after reading the title, it’s not a sad song. Quite the contrary. The Swedish artist doesn’t linger on sadness and broken hearts in this one, but rather looks forward to what comes next. She lists all of her plans over a catchy, upbeat melody because, as she sings, she “can do anything”. It’s perfect for a small dance party in your room, or if you need a little shot of positivity and self-love. ⬪ JB
