Every Friday, we end the week on a good note with a selection of freshly released songs.

Here are our new #RecsFriday! (You can also find them on our Instagram and Twitter accounts)

From us to you. With love.

Slowly – Olivia Dean

Described by the British singer-songwriter as song “for when it’s hard to be soft”, Slowly is just that. It tackles that difficult stage one might go through when getting involved with someone new. One step forward then one back, are you saying too much or not enough? How much of you should you reveal? But most of all, will it be worth the trouble? Or is the risk of getting your heart broken one more time just too much? “Maybe I will be fine this time / And I’ll let you see me in the light,” sings Olivia Dean. Vulnerable and powerful at once, the track is as soothing as it feels honest. A welcome dose of softness, especially seeing how harsh reality has been lately. Slowly will be on the musician’s forthcoming EP, Growth, set for a release on July 30th. ⬪ Ahlem Khattab

Running in Place – LIP TALK

LIP TALK is the artist I didn’t know I needed this week. Sarah K. Pedinotti defines herself as an experimental pop producer (she’s also a multi-instrumentalist and a singer-songwriter) and it only takes a quick trip to her Instagram, while streaming her songs, to understand that in fact, she’s not afraid to experiment with music (like More, from a writing project based on pictures called These Are Photographs). Running in Place is a dive into her colorful world, carried by her soft voice and a catchy chorus (it’s still stuck in my head, and I absolutely love it) with some 80s vibes. A vintage aesthetic that is also reflected in the music video co-directed and co-produced with her sister, Elizabeth Pedinotti Haynes. LIP TALK’s album Laughing & Eating Cake comes out on August 4th.⬪ Julia Bergier

Cure For Me – AURORA

If you have never heard of AURORA before, you might have already unknowingly heard her voice. If you watched Frozen 2 (or listened to its soundtrack), then you definitely did. She’s behind the hauntingly beautiful call of the North Wind that sings to Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) in the movie. The Norwegian musician has had her own career since 2012, and Cure For Me is her latest release. Lyrically, the track is written from a freshly-out-of-a-bad-relationship perspective, but what I love about this song is its energy. The chorus’ melody is way too catchy, in the best way, and I can’t help but want to dance along to it. It might also fit well within a work-out mix, if that’s more your thing. ⬪ AK

Watching People – Conan Gray

I love, love, love love songs, but People Watching isn’t exactly one. Or at least, not in the traditional sense. It’s all about people in love, in the lyrics and the music video that came out this Friday, but Conan Gray isn’t one of them. He’s observing them with a longing for a relationship of his own. “But I wanna feel all that love and emotion / Be that attached to the person I’m holding,” he sings. In an Instagram post, the American singer-songwriter apologized to those who “relate to the song”. But while I do, I’m not exactly mad nor sad about it. There’s something quite refreshing and liberating for me, as a single person, to belt out (probably off-key, but who cares): “Cut people out like tags on my clothing / I end up all alone, but I still keep hoping / I won’t be scared to let someone know me.” It just feels good sometimes to let it all out, and I think this the perfect song for that if you’re feeling a bit lonely at the sight of your friends falling in love and old classmates getting married. ⬪  JB
